Research Process Improvement

The Office of Knowledge Enterprise process improvement initiative is designed to identify, analyze and improve existing processes to optimize performance, implement best practices, and improve the user’s experience.  It will focus on streamlining non-Workday related research processes posing challenges to the university’s research enterprise, including those under the Office of Research and the Office of Innovation and Economic Development.

Members of the university’s research and creative expression community are invited to submit ideas for non-Workday related processes to be considered for this program. Submitted ideas will be evaluated by a project management group, comprised of faculty and staff from different academic and administrative areas, to determine the viability and value of making the proposed change. Examples of potential projects include:

  • Updating processes to eliminate redundancies and ensure equitable access to ERIK resources;
  • Creating new processes to ensure alignment across the university; and
  • Implementing new systems to speed up processes.

Processes selected to advance will be assigned to process working groups consisting of faculty and staff familiar with the process, as well as those who can provide fresh perspectives. These groups will be guided through business process improvement stages to evaluate existing processes, determine what is not working or what can be made better, suggest changes to optimize the processes, and ultimately implement the changes.
