Associate Vice President of Strategic Research Development

Deborah Hernandez leads the Research Development Office and is responsible for working directly with faculty and staff to identify, develop and implement institutional research strategies. 

Hernandez is a seasoned research leader with a strong track record of partnering with faculty to identify, pursue and secure funding for large-scale interdisciplinary grants. She most recently served as Associate Vice President for Research and Sponsored Programs at the University of Memphis where she launched its research development program and spearheaded numerous proposals in targeted development areas. Throughout her career, she has facilitated and managed partnerships with government, non-profits, industry and academic institutions to ensure project success and program development.  

Hernandez holds a Master of Science in Community and Regional Planning and Master of Arts in Latin American Studies from the University of Texas and Bachelor of Arts in Political Science and American History from Butler University. She joined the RDO in October 2019.
