The Center of Microbiome Science and Infectious Diseases Institute will hold their second workshop focused on Space Microbiome Research. This event will have two keynote presentations from NASA scientists:
- Dr. Craig Kundrot, NASA Division Director of Biological and Physical Sciences
- Dr. C. Mark Ott, NASA Johnson Space Center’s Microbiology Laboratory
The event will also feature three breakout room sessions focused on:
- microbiology of the built environment;
- how extreme environments and their associated microbiomes impact human and plant health; and
- the role of the microbiome in food production in artificial and remote environments.
Each breakout room will include brief lightning talks from researchers at Ohio State, NASA Glenn (Cleveland, OH) and the Air Force Research Laboratory (Wright Patt in Dayton, OH).
The goal of this workshop is to establish a space microbiome research community here at Ohio State, forge closer connections between the broader space research community across the State of Ohio (NASA Glenn and AFRL), and to develop an action plan for pursuing research and establishing Ohio State’s preeminence in these three topical areas.
