Martin joins Office of Knowledge Enterprise to lead talent and team development
Julie P. Martin, PhD, FASEE, has been named assistant vice president for talent and team development in the Enterprise for Research, Innovation and Knowledge’s Office of Knowledge Enterprise.
Martin will work to build goal-driven research leadership and team and talent development training programs that support the university’s ambitious research and creative expression goals. She will partner with administrative and research leaders across campus to develop programs that support faculty research leaders across their career lifespan. In addition, she will work to enhance competitiveness for external funding by building multi-disciplinary team development programs that support research networking and multidisciplinary team formation.
“Building a culture where interdisciplinary research excellence can flourish is vital to Ohio State’s land-grant mission and I’m thrilled that Julie will add her talents to this endeavor,” said Dorota A. Grejner-Brzezinska, vice president for knowledge enterprise at Ohio State. “Her own extensive research experience, coupled with her passion for relationship building, mentorship and resource development make her the right person to establish this university-wide focus on research skills development.”
Martin will also oversee The STEAM Factory, working to add interdisciplinary talent and team development focus to its already established collaborative programming that bridges innovation across all colleges and disciplines.
Martin, the principal investigator with the Elevate Research Group, joined Ohio State as an associate professor of engineering education in 2019 after serving as a program director in the Engineering Education and Centers Division at the National Science Foundation. She has held a variety of national leadership positions in the Women in Engineering ProActive Network, including serving as its national president, and is a fellow with the American Society for Engineering Education. Martin is the editor-in-chief of Journal of Women and Minorities in Science and Engineering, where she is seeking to create a culture of constructive review for academic publishing. She has two degrees in Materials Science and Engineering – her BS from North Carolina State University and her PhD from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University.
